Potential Explanation 2: Global Nuclear War

The newly popular Left (thanks to Donald Trump), if elected, will throw the transmission into reverse and stop the war, some believe.

Before then, however, there is a chance that the incumbents, Trump, Hegseth & Co., may go the other way, forward, pedal to the metal.  Having run out of ammo, they may turn to reserve ammo, i.e., previously unthinkable nuclear war.

Yes, unthinkable, you say.  Yes, of course, but what if you add more than a dash of PR and rebrand this just a “tactical” nuclear war?  Tactical is a good word, no? You want to be tactical, no?  Now that’s not so bad, is it?  Limited, restricted, just to make a point against global adversaries, Iran, or Russia, or China, and threaten worse outcomes?

This is exactly the type of thinking that is happening today.

Recent reports indicate that the Pentagon—led by Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby—has initiated a review of U.S. nuclear posture to provide President Trump with more “credible options” during regional conflicts. Rather than rely on large-scale strategic deterrence, use short-range tactical nuclear weapons.

How this strategic shift would work

Background: Traditional U.S. doctrine emphasizes the nuclear “triad” (intercontinental ballistic missiles, strategic bombers, and submarine-launched ballistic missiles) designed to deter full-scale nuclear exchanges.

New “Tactical” Focus: Target battlefield or regional targets. The objective is to provide options to respond to or deter regional aggression (e.g., from Russia or China) without immediately escalating to a full strategic counter-value or counter-force exchange.   You use a nuke; they don’t.  This may likely be magical thinking.

Integration into Regional Theater Operations

Deployment Platforms: Tactical nuclear warheads can be integrated into dual-capable aircraft, air-launched cruise missiles, or submarine-launched low-yield warheads (such as the W76-2).

Targeting Intent: Rather than targeting major adversary population centers or entire nuclear ICBM silo fields, tactical nuclear deployment strategies focus on military infrastructure, heavily fortified underground complexes, or major adversary troop concentrations to force an end to a regional conventional war.

Command, Control, and Employment Guidance

Authority: Under U.S. law and military doctrine, the sole authority to order the use of any nuclear weapon—tactical or strategic—remains exclusively with the President.

Execution: If authorized, the command is transmitted through the National Command Authorities down to U.S. Strategic Command (STRATCOM) and regional combatant commanders (e.g., EUCOM or INDOPACOM) to execute targeted strikes with precise yield limits.

Strategic Considerations and Debate

Proponents’ View: Advocates argue that having explicit, lower-yield nuclear options creates a more credible deterrent against adversaries who possess large tactical nuclear arsenals (such as Russia). It signals that the U.S. can respond in kind to regional nuclear coercion without triggering an all-out apocalyptic exchange.  Again, magical thinking rises to the fore.  Defeating Iran in a week is a recent example of magical thinking.  (Author’s opinion: A Big 10 head coach spends more effective time deconstructing a weekly opponent than the Pentagon did on Iran with 40+ years’ time.  Disgraceful.)

Critics’ View: Arms control analysts and military critics contend that introducing lower-yield tactical options lowers the threshold for nuclear war. They argue that any use of nuclear weapons against another nuclear-armed state risks rapid, uncontrollable escalation into full-scale strategic conflict.

Worst case outcome

Here’s the bad part, and it’s entirely uncontrollable:  An adversary, China or Russia, suffers defeat on the battlefield, and wounded, decides to deliver a nuclear torrent to the top 100 U.S. cities.  America is obliterated.  America does not appear in Bible or any other prophecy, because America is cinders.

Today’s plight

Political.  America is waking up to the fact that Trump’s promised four-to-six-week war has now gone on for many months, cost untold billions, created toll fees on the Strait of Hormuz, and made Iran much stronger, the U.S. much weaker.

Smelling coffee and desiring bacon vs. bullets, Trump and his allies, Republican, MAGA or libertarian, will be decimated in midterm elections.  This is a tidal wave and cannot be stopped.  We’ve seen the first waves crash on the beach with recent DSA wins.

Meanwhile, however, before or after the midterms, imagine Putin invades Romania to test the NATO waters.  (On Sunday, August 16, 2026, it was reported that two NATO F-18 fighter jets were deployed after a drone was detected breaching Romanian national airspace about 14 miles north of Galați.)

Suppose an invasion follows.  Does America respond?  Trump fouls up – again – and reacts with a “tactical” nuclear weapon.  Putin responds with strategic weapons, 300 missiles, say. (Russia has 5,500 warheads; China 650.)  Russia’s most potent weapon is said to be able to wipe out an area the size of France or Texas.  No one wants to find out for sure, but let’s say, tragically, we do.

Destroyed by the ineptitude of Trump, who promised no foreign wars, no adventures, and then pressed by ego, AIPAC, Israel, Jared Kushner, or all of the above, did everything he said he would not do, and in so doing destroyed America, thus becoming the worst and the last American president.  A modern-day Nero, working on his ballroom and his 250 ft. Trump monument and his golden statues, then one day turning his attention to ignite a nuclear conflagration that envelopes and destroys America, and much of the known world.

Another scenario whereby America plays no role in Bible prophecy, not involved with Ezekiel 38 or Psalm 83 wars, or any other.

Trump & Co. have shown us full well that America is not “exceptional,” that instead our enemy Iran has “exceptional resilience,” having been defeated 500 times in recent days by Trump’s own words, and that a few ill-chosen moves by our 80-year-old president has the capacity to move us to and beyond the “Eve of Destruction.”

If it comes to this, if we get nuked in response to a deployment of a Trump-fired “tactical nuclear weapon,” God help us all.  Those who have repented and placed their faith in Jesus Christ will be transported at once to eternal life (at his right hand, there are pleasures forevermore).

For the rest of humanity, the unsaved, there is justice, which means hell, an old concept, now too unpopular to mention in polite society, let alone church, but there it is. It’s not going away.  No guilty party wants justice; they want grace.  The time to access that grace is now.  It is not a forever thing.

Maranatha, even so, return, Lord Jesus!  Set your kingdom in the earth and create righteousness and peace across the globe!
