Why Ezekiel 38/39 May Be a Ground Invasion? :: By Dave Hubley

I have included a Special message at the end of this article. I hope you will read it and take it to heart.

It’s too early to be certain, but in light of the current war against Iran, it occurs to me that a question I have always had in the back of my mind may be starting to make sense.

I am not claiming this current war (with Iran) is a fulfillment of any specific prophecy, but only that it may be a factor in understanding how future events may be realized.

I have often wondered, given the proliferation of air power and missiles as the weapon of choice in this modern age, why does Ezekiel 38/39 seem to indicate a ground invasion with myriads of invading troops as “a cloud covering the land”?

“You and all your troops, and many peoples with you will go up, advancing like a thunderstorm; you will be like a cloud covering the land” (Ezekiel 38:9). Emphasis added.

Considering Persia (modern-day Iran), it was always known for using the battle bow as the primary weapon of their military power, and God prophesies His destruction of their strength in Jeremiah 49:35-39 – A prophecy against Elam (part of modern-day Iran).

“Thus says the LORD of hosts, ‘Behold, I am going to break the bow of Elam,
The finest of their might’” (Jeremiah 49:35). Emphasis added.

Could the present-day destruction of Iran’s air force and missile systems account for the fact that the invading armies of which Iran will be a part may no longer possess the ability to wage war by this method? And what of Russia, Turkey, and their allies (the many nations with you)?

What will be the cause of the apparent shift from missile and drone strikes and the prevalence of air power in place of ground troops?

Perhaps those methods will still be present but are just not divulged to Ezekiel by the Holy Spirit for whatever His reasons. Either way, masses of ground troops are relatively rare these days.

Is it because the invaders have come to seize a great spoil, and “carrying it away” would require that there be something to take and someone (and somewhere) to take it?

“Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish with all its villages will ask, ‘Have you come to capture the plunder? Have you assembled your hordes to carry away loot, to make off with silver and gold, to take cattle and goods, to seize great spoil?’” (Ezekiel 38:13). Emphasis added.

There wouldn’t be much of this plunder left to take if nuclear weapons were to be deployed against so small a nation as Israel.

As most of us who study and follow prophecy have learned, accurate understanding of events being a fulfillment of specific prophecies cannot be confirmed until after they have occurred. Wisdom commands us to “wait and see.”

Even the Lord Himself indicates that “if a prophecy does not come to pass,” it did not come from Him (Deuteronomy 18:22), thus establishing His plumb line.

So, we wait and see how these activities and “wars and rumors of wars” play into the final chapters of God’s Sovereign will and “the end from the beginning” that He has declared to us in His Word.

And there is also this: That we (Jesus’ TRUE Church) may not be present to “see” the actual details of these prophesied events. For this we truly “wait and see” with great anticipation. The Rapture of the Church will occur right on God’s schedule.

In the meantime:

We pray without ceasing for the lost souls we all know and those whom we don’t know, understanding that God does not want anyone to perish but all to come to The Truth.

It seems to me that God equates Trusting Him with Loving Him and that He alone is worthy of that Trust.

Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross while we were yet sinners (Romans 5:8) and already fulfilled prophecy illustrate that He is indeed Who He has revealed Himself to be.

Trusting in humans, human governments, and their secular “solutions” has crossed the Rubicon (the point of no return). It is a hollow and hopeless endeavor.

John 14:6 tells anyone who will listen where The Answer truly lies.

If you choose to act, you must do so while you are still in your living years.

I hope and pray that you will.

The special message I promised you:

For anyone who may read this article and has not trusted in Jesus Christ and therefore has no real hope or peace in your life.

You can have hope. You can have the peace that Jesus has promised to all who have made Him their Lord and Savior. The peace that passes understanding.

It requires that you come before God on His terms and that you do so in your living years.

And, what are His terms according to His Word?

  • Genuine repentance (turning to God instead of continuing to reject or ignore Him).
  • Confession of sins (that you are a sinner and acknowledge that to God).
  • That you understand that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).
  • To acknowledge to God that you are unable to pay that debt.
  • Belief that Jesus Christ paid your death sentence for you on the cross and rose from the grave three days later, conquering death, just as He promised.
  • To believe that Jesus is the Way, the only Way, that God has established by which humans may be saved from the consequences of their sin and rebellion.

This is what leads one to the Spiritual Rebirth that Jesus requires (John 3.3).

God has made it absolutely clear that there is no one who comes before Him, under His terms, that will be refused.

  • No one: no race, no color, no country of origin, regardless of any previous belief system: no one.
  • No matter what your past sins have been, God can and WILL forgive you because He says He will.
  • Salvation is available to everyone without any exceptions.

If you put all your trust for salvation in Jesus, and Him only, you can follow that prayer up by simply saying, “Thank you, Father God, for hearing my prayer and saving me.” because we can trust Him to keep His Word. He always has. He always will.

“Truly, Truly, I say to you that he who hears My words and believes the One who sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned. He has crossed from death to life” (John 5:24).

There are no answers and there is no hope in the world by governments, organizations, politics or politicians. They are incapable of it. There are only lies and deception. But you can have the Truth and the peace you seek.

The answers are in the Word of God—The Bible. If you ask God, with all your heart, He will hear you.

“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13).
