Elections determine the direction of the country, so consider where certain policies lead. What happens when illegal entry is tolerated, sanctuary policies impede immigration enforcement, or crimes committed by people here illegally are minimized? What happens when citizenship and identification safeguards for voting are opposed in the name of access and fairness?
Democrats say they favor election integrity and border security, but their policies and actions often undermine their ostensible support. Voters should look beyond political language and examine what candidates actually support, how they vote, and whether the resulting policies protect national sovereignty, public safety, and election integrity.
Consider another set of dividing lines. Democratic organizations and many Democratic lawmakers continue defending transgender protections, including access to gender-changing medical care for minors, while 130 Democratic members of Congress joined a Supreme Court brief opposing categorical state bans on transgender students competing on teams matching their gender identity, not their biological birth sex.
Energy presents another distinction. Democrats advocate solar, wind, and geothermal development while shutting down federal support for oil and gas. These are legitimate subjects for voters to examine. So are religious liberty and national security when it comes to Islam and confronting Islamist ideology and terrorism.
Then there are ideas emerging farther from the political center. The Democratic Socialists of America has advocated abolishing the Senate, replacing the presidency and Supreme Court as presently constituted, abolishing ICE, and ultimately eliminating national borders. Its national co-chair publicly defended those positions this year.
Political violence deserves an equally firm standard. Assassination, attempted assassination, or rationalization of murder because someone holds objectionable political beliefs attacks the foundation of ordered liberty. That principle applies regardless of ideology. A republic survives disagreement through ballots, debate, courts, and constitutional government rather than bullets.
Americans therefore have some serious questions before casting a ballot. Which candidates support border security? Which defend equal protection for women and girls? Which protect children from irreversible medical decisions? Which favor abundant American energy, secure elections, religious liberty, constitutional checks and balances, and peaceful political debate? And which candidates belong to parties, factions, or movements advancing policies that move in the opposite direction?
Examine their platforms, legislation, votes, and public statements rather than campaign slogans.
Jesus said in Matthew 7:16, “You will know them by their fruits.”
Political labels can change, and rhetoric can disguise intent, but the fruit of policy eventually becomes visible. Discern, then ask: Which candidates are for America and which are against it?
