Jesus Said ‘Go Into The Highways And Hedges’, And In Our Digital Internet Age That Means Taking The King James Bible And The Gospel Of Jesus Christ Onto The Information Superhighway

D. L. Moody looked at the crowded cities of the nineteenth century and saw people who needed to hear the gospel. He used newspaper publicity, printed notices, and workers who went from house to house. Then he preached to packed halls, with thousands more trying to get in. Moody understood something every generation of Christians must understand: if you want to reach people, you must go where the people are. The message was the gospel of Jesus Christ; the streets, the press, and the great meeting halls were ways to put that message within their hearing.

“And the lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.” Luke 14:23 (KJB)

Now the crowds have gathered on another highway, the internet. The internet became the “information superhighway” of the 1990s, and today it reaches across borders at every hour of the day. That gives fresh force to the Lord’s words of “Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in”. Now obviously, Jesus was speaking of people, not technology. But if we are to go out after people, to be ‘fishers of men’ we cannot ignore a highway where so many of them now spend their lives. Yes, that highway carries sin, deception, and an endless flood of distractions. But that is precisely why it needs gospel witnesses on it. Put the King James Bible where a searching person can find it. Preach the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ where a lost person can hear it. DL Moody used the means of his day to reach cities; we have the means to reach the entire world. Let others count clicks and followers, but let us who believe remember why we went onto the highway in the first place – to call people to Jesus Christ while there is still time. TO THE FIGHT!!!
