Home Stretch
I spoke to two Israeli friends this morning, one by email, one by phone.
One was especially poignant. He talked about his family serving in the IDF. Sons and grandsons, granddaughters, nieces. They go to a play in Jerusalem, or maybe a concert. Those active in the IDF stand at the back, holding their cellphones. Often they are called away before the performance ends. Family might not see them for weeks.
The Israel Defense Forces of course have many in the reserves. In fact, the reservists are in many ways the backbone of this seven-front war. Everyone is on pins and needles about the election and “Bibi’s political career.” In fact, the greater drama is playing out as the vaunted IDF protects the home front.
My other friend sounded weary. He talked about the stress that Israelis are under. Ongoing war, now three years on, wears on the human body and mind. No way around it.
Let’s be honest. Israel cannot really count on America. Going forward, to the end, the Apple of God’s Eye will rely on Him alone, and the strength He gives them. There must be a motivation for the Jews to look to God, and they are experiencing many motivations.
It’s interesting to note what happens to nations that oppose Israel. The Israelis, as I’ve outlined, are preoccupied with war. Lots of it. But they will survive, and thrive, as Scripture tells us. The nations, though, are in a lot of trouble.
Great Britain hasn’t learned anything since World War 2. Then the British kept Jews from entering Palestine, or their own shores, and left them to the barbarity of the Nazis. Today, this minute, Britain is in the Parliament, plotting a boycott of Jewish businesses in Judea-Samaria, claiming that “settler violence” is a problem against Arabs. What a joke.
What is really happening is, we are witnessing the twilight of the British Empire. I firmly believe that their growing Jew-hatred in the 1930s led to their steep decline as the war ended. Remember, many “British Empire” subjects, such as those in India, fought Hitler and when victory came, demanded independence. That happened and the Empire shrunk dramatically.
Today? Watch for more erosion of Britain’s remaining might. While hammering the Jews and placating the Arabs, the British are in a precarious position. Just as Bill Koenig points out in his landmark book, Eye to Eye, America takes hits when they abandon Israel. In just the same way, we are watching Britain’s last remaining days as a free power. A Muslim mayor of London, roaming street gangs, and historic churches being converted into mosques—all spell the death knell for a once-great country.
America is heading in the same direction. Though it may not look like it right now, our country is not far behind England.
All because we do not understand just who the Apple of God’s Eye really is.
