The Cobra and the Ants
I saw a short video this week. A cobra rose up and struck like lightning a mound of ants. In some sense, you think the deadly snake is more powerful. His entire body is a lethal strike.
Yet the ants cover him and the snake is dead within seconds. It was an extraordinary sight.
It is very much like Israel and her enemies.
In addition to the direct military threats, Israel is confronted by a tsunami of anti-Semitism unlike anything we’ve ever seen. Perhaps it’s just the internet, but Jew-hatred is rolling across the landscape. “Explodiing” is an appropriate term.
I would argue that we’ve crossed over into a very dangerous place: we are no longer able to reach people with the truth and facts and common sense.
For example, in America, we are way past mounting a defense to deal with Jew-haters. As I’ve written exhaustively, our churches have been infected with leftist thought and anti-Jewish doctrine for well over 150 years. Remember, the Unitarian influences on the Colonies, coupled with bad theology from Germany caused serious problems.
It’s astonishing how many pastors and seminaries were in contrast to the simple, Scriptural promises to the Jews. Charles Spurgeon famously “predicted” that they would return to their Land and claim it as a sovereign entity. But this was not a popular view in Europe.
Our own celebrity pastors now preach in such a soft manner they cannot be called legitimate, biblical pastors.
Only a handful nationally still teach a biblical view of Israel. These include David Jeremiah.
What stands in opposition to the bad teaching?
Scripture.
The biblical narrative is that the Jews will first return physically to the Land, then God will look after their spiritual transformation. This is all through the Bible. Some argue that this isn’t really found in the New Testament, but that is the so-called Argument from Silence. Meaning, if something isn’t mentioned elsewhere, then it must not be true. This is absurd and sophomoric.
But it is also true that these things are prophetic. As we steam toward the end, Israel will be increasingly alone. Unpleasant to see, but necessary according to God’s Word. We are right where we are supposed to be on the timeline.
So to the world, the cobra seems unbeatable. The world trembles.
And then the Swarm.
Israel is wired to defeat her enemies, or rather, her God will defeat them as they watch and participate. Things aren’t as they seem. We who believe have a mandate to hang on. As Band of Brothers hero Richard Winters said to his men: “Hang tough!”
We will.
As more fall off the Love Israel wagon, we cling to it. The serpent was destined from old to fail. So he shall. God will swarm him in the end and end him.
