Two people there died from the outbreak, both with significant health conditions. Cyclosporiasis is generally not considered deadly, and death is uncommon in the US. CDC reported 6,707 lab‑confirmed cases across 45 states as of July 28, a rise of over 2,500 since July 21.
Rare Bourbon virus case confirmed in New York as tick season continues. The first case of the Bourbon virus, a rare infection transmitted by the lone star tick, was recently confirmed in Long Island. Also, three cases of tularemia, also known as rabbit fever, were recently suspected in New York, another rare infection closely associated with lone star or American dog tick bites. Tularemia can be treated with antibiotics.
2nd person dies in Florida from ‘flesh-eating’ bacteria found in oysters and swimming water. There have been 14 other cases confirmed across Florida. Elsewhere, there have been six confirmed cases in Alabama and one in Connecticut. Infections are rare, but a person can get sick by swimming in the ocean with an open wound or eating contaminated raw shellfish.

The situation in the USA is probably worse, and in Canada, not much better. Wouldn’t this steady year-by-year increase of so-called “wildfires” raise the legitimate question of why and what or who causes them? Why Spokane wildfires turned so destructive. Three large wildfires raced through neighborhoods around the weekend of Aug. 1, destroying at least 600 homes and other structures and threatening many more. Tens of thousands were forced to evacuate. Dry, windy conditions converged where neighborhoods were built into forests, shrublands and grasslands. That set the stage for the latest wildland-urban disaster in the U.S.

NOAA’s new hurricane forecast predicts a quiet season in the Atlantic. The Pacific won’t be as lucky. Between 2 & 6 hurricanes, 0 & 2 major hurricanes, & 7 to 13 named storms are expected in the Atlantic for the rest of the year. Precipitation below average along eastern & southern shores is tied to El Niño, which is also responsible for above-average hurricane year in the Pacific, which sees storms hit Hawaii and the West Coast.

Trump claims Israel ‘very happy’ about Hamas disarmament deal, as Netanyahu indicates otherwise. A statement from Netanyahu’s office said Israel demanded “full disarmament of Hamas, including removal of the weaponry from Gaza and complete demilitarization of the Strip as a condition for any process” of withdrawal. The statement added that the agreement does not include “a sufficient response to those demands.”

It’s disturbing that the new deal asserts that “no weapons shall be transferred or handed to Israel or non-Palestinian parties.” Also, the new roadmap’s conditioning of disarmament on Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip. Why should a terrorist organization that carried out the Oct 7, 2023 massacre in Israel be allowed to dictate the conditions of its own disarmament?
U.S. Virtually Out of Long-range Missiles. Army General: U.S. Can No Longer Defend Israel. Army General Grynkewich, head of U.S. European Command, said he can no longer defend Israel from missile attacks without another Navy destroyer. Without that nearly $3 billion ship, he must choose between defending America, which he swore an oath to do, and defending Israel, which he did not swear an oath to do.
