M5.0 earthquake joins small group of major Texas Panhandle events
A rare 5.0 struck northwestern Roberts County in the Texas Panhandle on July 23. It’s the 4th quake at or above 5.0 in the Texas Panhandle since 2011. Nearly 91% of all known Panhandle quakes since 1907 were below that. It’s Texas’ strongest quake in 5 years. Effects were felt as far as southern Oklahoma and New Mexico.
