S is for Spiritual
Isaiah 29:20
“The scoffer will be gone, the arrogant will disappear, and those who plot evil will be killed. Those who convict the innocent by their false testimony will disappear.”
Jeremiah 32:39-40
“And I will give them one heart, in appearance, speech and behavior, and one purpose: to worship me forever for their own good and for the good of all their descendants. And I will make an everlasting covenant with them: I will never stop doing good for them. I will put a desire in their hearts to worship me, and they will never leave me.”
Asher: To be spiritual simply means to be filled with and guided by the Spirit of God. In Romans 8:14, Paul says, “…those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.” The Kingdom Age will be marked by overwhelming numbers of people in every nation who will be “led by the Spirit.” Having enjoyed a long career in teaching, I have often marveled at the similarities between children and their parents. In appearance, speech and behavior, children often mirror their parents to a great degree! So shall the children of God do in Kingdom days! 1 John 3:2 reveals an amazing secret:
“Dear friends, now we are children of God, and we have not yet been shown what we will be in the future. But we know that when Christ comes again, we will be like him, because we will see him as he really is.”
The Millennial Kingdom of God will be filled with the spiritual children of God who will speak, act and love just like their heavenly Father! Praise the Lord!
Seth: Isaiah, Joel and Ezekiel all have millennial passages about God’s Spirit being poured out on His people in the end days. IN the Millennial Kingdom, this will exceed anything ever seen before! God couples one of the passages with a picture of water being poured out on the desert. Like so many other passages of scripture, this may also have a double fulfillment, being the literal water turns the desert green in the Millennium and at the same time, being the living water that refreshes our spirits! We get the sense that this crucial, life-giving ingredient was previously in short supply, but in Millennial days will drench all creation abundantly. Then the words of the ancient Jewish prophet, Joel, will finally be fulfilled:
“You will have plenty to eat, until you are full,
and you will praise the name of the Lord your God,
who has worked wonders for you; never again will my people be shamed.
Then you will know that I am in Israel, that I am the Lord your God,
and that there is no other; never again will my people be shamed” (Joel 2:26-27).
T is for Thankful
Jeremiah 30:19
“From them will come songs of thanksgiving and the sound of rejoicing.
I will add to their numbers, and they will not be decreased;
I will bring them honor, and they will not be disdained.”
Revelation 11:17
“We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty, the One who is and who was,
because you have taken your great power and have begun to reign.”
Asher: No one can know or show thankfulness better than those who have been born again by the Spirit of God! WE have been forgiven of our sins; given a clean, new nature; inhabited by the Holy Spirit; promised an eternal inheritance of blessings and, best of all, betrothed as a bride to Christ, the object of His affection and protection forever! We will need a millennium to express our gratitude to the Lord! Our joy will show on the face of every child of God every hour of every day for a thousand years! And that’s only the beginning!
Seth: Imagine that the same man who pardoned you for every wrong thing you ever did then died to save you and then arose to give you every good thing imaginable! Our glorious king has done just that! He told us to “fear not, little flock, for it is the Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom”! He also promised us that we:
“shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree, and no one shall make them afraid, for the mouth of the LORD of hosts has spoken” (Micah 4:4).
I have suffered much of my life with an abnormally high level of anxiety, so these verses really resonate with my soul. The tender compassion that God has for His children helps me envision a future where thankfulness will fill our every breath.
U is for Unity
“The Lord will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one Lord, and his name the only name” (Zechariah 14:9).
“And foreigners who bind themselves to the Lord to minister to him,
to love the name of the Lord, and to be his servants,
all who keep the Sabbath without desecrating it and who hold fast to my covenant—
these I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer.
Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar;
for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.”
The Sovereign Lord declares – he who gathers the exiles of Israel:
‘I will gather still others to them besides those already gathered’” (Is. 56:6-8).
Asher: As a youngster in Hebrew School, I learned to sing a popular Israeli song taken from Psalm 131. “Hee-nay ma-tov oo ma na-yeem, she-vet acheem gom ya-chad.” The translation is this:
“Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity.”
I have worshipped in the churches of four cultures different from my own, including an Arabic church. I have corresponded with believers in seven different countries and personally met with believers from 25 more. Each time I have “cross-cultural fellowship (no pun intended), I experience anew the amazing unity which only God can bring about! In the marvelous Millennium, all peoples will be speaking the same language, united in the praises and the purposes of their one true King and Savior, Jesus Christ. “How good and how pleasant” that will be!
Seth: In Zechariah 2:10, 11, it says:
“Shout and be glad, Daughter Zion. For I am coming, and I will live among you, declares the Lord. Many nations will be joined with the Lord in that day and will become my people. I will live among you and you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you.”
Can you imagine the prosperity of a world where everyone is in agreement with God’s perfect word? The unity of the people in the Millennial Kingdom will be like no other time in human history. People will be working hard for common purposes, building a beautiful world which God had long ago promised to Israel and to all who believe!
V is for Victorious
Isaiah 41:11-13
“All who rage against you will surely be ashamed and disgraced; those who oppose you will be as nothing and perish. Though you search for your enemies, you will not find them. Those who wage war against you will be as nothing at all. For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.”
Psalm 98:1-3
“Sing a new song to the Lord, For He has done wonderful things; His right hand and His holy arm have gained the victory for Him. The Lord has made His salvation known; He has revealed His righteousness in the sight of the nations. He has remembered His graciousness and His faithfulness to the house of Israel; All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.”
Asher: First John 3:2 says:
“Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.”
What will it mean to be “made like Jesus”? It will mean that every minute of every day, we will know perfect peace, purpose and power! In our “glorified bodies,” we will be empowered to help, heal and bless others just as Jesus did when he walked the earth the first time! Looking forward in time, Jesus once said this:
“Truly, truly I say to you, the one who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do…” (John 14:12a).
The victorious life we will live in the Millennium will mean that we will be free at last to fully experience heavenly Father’s love and power every day and to channel that love into the lives of others. With this kind of victory in view, Charles Spurgeon once said:
“My soul…see to it that thou art at peace with this mighty king, yea, more, be sure to enlist under his mighty banner, for to war against him is madness and to serve him is glory!”
Seth: In Psalm 2 and in other places, the Bible declares that, in the Kingdom Age, the Lord will rule the nations with a “rod of iron” and make his enemies lick the dust. All tribes on the earth will bow to him. But in addition to his great power, he will also display great mercy and justice. So while certain verses make the Lord sound severe, it will only be with the rebellious. For all who trust in the Lord, there will be nothing to fear.
At the close of the 1,000-year Millennium, Christ will loose Satan from the abyss, and humanity’s final rebellion will commence. This is truly when Jesus achieves his final victory over evil. He destroys Satan along with all of his human and demonic followers, and the glorious eternal state can begin!
