With Israel bracing for potential retaliation from Iran and its proxies after two assassinations in Beirut and Tehran, the United States is scrambling forces to prepare for an escalation that threatens to engulf the Middle East.
We are watching a war coming together in the Middle East, the likes of which we have not seen since perhaps the Six Day War back in 1967. Yesterday, we told you about how Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was killed, likely by drone strike from Israel, but today that story gets a bit more complex. Breaking news is now saying that the bomb that blew him up was smuggled into that room two months ago, and was only detonated when it was confirmed Haniyeh was staying there. Israel loves to play the long game, and this time it would spectacularly well. But what about next time?

Right now in Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu is warning its citizens to “be ready for challenging days ahead” and indeed those days are fast approaching. The only question is, will this be a regional war, or a world war? That’s the memo.
Netanyahu: ‘Challenging days ahead,’ Israel will exact heavy price for any attack from our enemies
FROM THE TIMES OF ISRAEL: Speaking from military headquarters in Tel Aviv at the end of a three-hour-long security cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said Israel was facing threats from across the region following the killing of Fuad Shukr, whom he called “Hezbollah’s chief of staff,” in Beirut on Tuesday night.
“We are ready for every scenario,” he promised, “and will stand united and determined against every threat.” He added: “Israel will exact a very heavy price for any aggression against us.”
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned on Wednesday evening that “challenging days are ahead” for Israel as it braces for attacks from Iran and its regional proxies following the assassinations of Hezbollah’s top military commander in Beirut and Hamas’s political leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

Israel was on high alert Wednesday evening as it prepared to face retaliation for the attacks. The killings and expectations of a response have fueled further concern that the conflict in Gaza was turning into a wider Middle East war.
The US Defense Department has sent 12 warships to the Middle East, the Persian Gulf and the Mediterranean Sea amid Israeli strikes on Beirut and Tehran, the Washington Post reported, citing an unnamed defense official.
The United States urged its citizens to not travel to Lebanon, citing rising tensions. The State Department raised its travel advisory to Lebanon to level four, which says “Do Not Travel.” The State Department advised Americans in Lebanon to depart if possible. While it confirmed hitting Shukr, Israel has not commented on Haniyeh’s killing, and Netanyahu avoided doing so, or even mentioning Haniyeh’s name, during his Wednesday comments. But Iran and Hamas blamed the Jewish state for the attack.
As Netanyahu was addressing the nation, Hezbollah formally confirmed that Shukr had been killed, more than 24 hours after the IDF struck the eight-story apartment building in southern Beirut that he was in. Shukr will be buried on Thursday, the Iran-backed group said, and its leader Hassan Nasrallah will deliver an address.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said earlier Wednesday that the US “certainly will help defend Israel” if regional conflict escalates, noting that it did so in April, when the US led a coalition of forces that, together with Israel, almost completely thwarted an Iranian attack on Israel with hundreds of drones and missiles.
The UN Security Council said it would be holding an emergency meeting on Wednesday, at 4 p.m. New York Time (11 p.m., in Israel) on the killing of Haniyeh. The meeting was requested by Iran and supported by representatives of Russia, China and Algeria. READ MORE

The Washington Post has reported that the U.S. has deployed 12 warships in the Middle East following tensions over the assassination of Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh. The fleet reportedly includes aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, amphibious assault teams and over 4,000 American marines and sailors. Destroyers have also been positioned in both Persian gulf & eastern Mediterranean. The report added that the U.S. has reportedly redirected its warships from the Red Sea.
