Many people with diplomas are content with the knowledge they receive in institutions of higher learning. Doctors, lawyers, politicians and actors are some of those who – in pursuit of money and “stuff” – get a higher education, thinking that such things and pleasures are going to make them happy. But once they attain them, they may find they were sadly mistaken: a gorgeous woman only married them for their money. Their supposed friends only wanted in on the action that money brings.
Many of these high achievers just seem to be wired that way, even though some of them may have cheated their way through college, where they partied endlessly. These same people who have now become wealthy often look down on those who are uneducated and those who are working-class people.
I happen to attend an uppity church like that myself in hopes of convicting them of their pompous attitude. You see, people, no matter how uppity, are attracted to charming professional actors, musicians, and writers – people in the arts— and so I am adored by some and vilified by others out of jealousy. But this shouldn’t be so. Every one of us is valuable to our creator.
The Bible teaches us that human beings are unique in that they have been created in the image and likeness of God, with the ability to choose right from wrong and make decisions. Each and every person has the capacity to do good or bad.
Although such men and women are knowledgeable, it doesn’t make them any better than anyone else. Higher learning can bring out the worst in a person. Arrogance, intolerance, greed, and vice can accompany them.
I read about a doctor who shot at another driver who was impeding his Mercedes, injuring three people inside the other car. Whatever happened to the Hippocratic oath they supposedly take upon entering that practice?
Lawyers tend to have a reputation for shady practices, and priests are suspected of pedophilia and love of money and adulation. However, I try to treat everyone as if they belonged to the family of God. Rich and poor, foolish or wise, we are all created by God. Even the lowly criminal who might have been born or raised in a bad environment can turn out to be someone special when they seek God. The evangelist Nicky Cruz and JD Vance, our Vice President, are two such people.
There was a time when I, too, sought money, but this was only to leave a legacy for my children. But, as I later learned, our offspring can be capable of rebellion and outright foolishness when growing up and even after being fully grown. They are more likely to be decent people if they grow up receiving instruction from the word of God and having godly parents to emulate.
Money and diplomas aren’t everything; in fact, money and acclaim can be the root of much evil. How good it is to know oneself and to be content with what God has given you.
Don’t get me wrong; knowledge is a good thing and is acquired by reading nonfiction books (while fiction can be entertaining – now is not the time to engage in frivolous pursuits). Wisdom, however, comes from God through reading the Bible – His God-breathed book.
You can have both knowledge and wisdom if you have the Holy Spirit’s guidance and are an ardent student of the Bible. You must also live by faith, for without faith, it is impossible to please God, and we garner faith by reading the Bible. Only then can you expect to hear God’s voice and begin to see miracles in your life. This, of course, is an ongoing process, which doesn’t happen all at once. There is growth and obedience to be had.
Sadly, a number of us go to church to be seen, not to learn. “For when for the time when ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. For everyone that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe” (Hebrews 5:12-13).
This is because of laziness or indifference, which is unacceptable to God.
Book Report:
Again, I have two books to report on, and one that has already made an impact on me after reading a couple of chapters – the last one, Sapiens.
The first one is titled MUSKISM: A Guide for the Perplexed by Guinn Slobodian and Ben Tarnoff. This book, of course, is all about Elon Musk and what makes him tick. Having read his 600-page authorized biography, I already knew all I needed to know about the man-child. I came away liking Elon but saw character flaws in his hyped-up existence. The Trillion-Dollar man is a genius at technology and making very big bucks.
It’s too bad he can’t really enjoy the money, though, since he works obsessively on his new inventions and his proposed flight to Mars, in which he is making increasingly steady progress. What a brain! But what Elon fails to realize is that man takes sin with them wherever they go – even to Mars. Don’t you know, Elon, that Satan was cast out of heaven for having left his first abode, among other things? Read your Bible, Mr. Musk.
The other book, Communion, is written by J.D. Vance, our Vice President. In it, he talks about how he came back to the Christian “Faith” after having forsaken the Pentecostal faith of his Pawpaw and Mamaw that he grew up around in his first book, Elegy. He now practices Catholicism, writing that the church where he was baptized and received his first communion in 2019 is known for its stained-glass windows.
Having attended the best universities our country has to offer, the former senator is a brilliant man academically. Surprisingly, even though he quotes passages from the Bible, he often stumbles on the meaning of said scripture and prefers to hear Mass from the pulpit of the Catholic church – the same denomination that opened the clergy door to homosexuals to preach love and tolerance to pedophiles and lesbians, which are a Christian no-no.
Personally, I like the man realizing that he is yet a babe in Christ, needing to study the scriptures.
Now, I’m tackling the book Sapiens by Yuval Noah Harari, the supposed Jewish “genius.” What a dumb and arrogant person he is – quoting other human dumbbells with faulty theories about how early Homo Sapiens came into existence (that amino acids coupled with atoms and “VIOLA,” they became monkeys – male and female of their own volition. I had to laugh at his complete arrogance and ignorance. The Bible tells all we need to know about mankind and his origins. He’s a fool.
