The 7.8 earthquake off southern Mindanao on June 8, which caused dozens of fatalities & widespread damage, raised sections of the coastline in Sarangani and Davao Occidental provinces as much as 2 m (6.6 feet). The shoreline retreated by up to 200 m (656 feet) in some locations, exposing coral reefs & marine ecosystems that previously remained underwater.
