Dear Saints, Thanksgiving will soon be here! I have an idea I hope you will like. I am calling it “Project 9212” because in Psalm 92:1-2, we find this…
“It is good to give thanks to the Lord, and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; to declare Your loving kindness in the morning, and Your faithfulness every night.”
I would like to propose that we, as the RR community, send up to the Lord a “thank offering” by contributing our personal expressions of thanks and praise. If you would be so kind as to send them to my email … [email protected] … I will compile them and post them back to RR by early November so we can all have most of the month to rejoice over each contribution. If we get enough of a response (and I hope we will), I may have to post a part 2!
Entries could include thanks for: deliverance from trouble, salvation testimonies, answers to prayer, revelations from His Word, and any other personal accounts and recollections you want others to have a chance to rejoice over. I only ask that you meet 3 conditions…
1 – Keep your submissions to just 4 sentences if at all possible and include a title.
2 – Understand that I reserve the right to do some minor editing if necessary.
3 – Make sure that your submission meets the criteria of Philippians 4:8.
I thought I would share a few of my own testimonies below so that you can get an idea of the type of offering I am thinking of…
Cast Your Bread Upon the Waters…
In 1984, I had the joy of leading one of my 6th-grade students to Christ from a very abusive home. In 2017, my wife was on dialysis and in desperate need of a new kidney. God miraculously reconnected us all, and my former student (now a middle-aged woman) happily donated her healthy kidney to my wife. Now almost 10 years later, my wife is still here, active in ministry and blessing me daily – – Praise the Lord!
53 Years of Grace!
Last month I celebrated 53 born-again years! I have been compiling a list of dramatic answers to prayer, and even though I have forgotten most of what the Lord has done for me, I am closing in on 150 stories of His mercy, kindness, and grace! (Psalm 116:1-7)
John 7:17
As a young Jewish believer, I had a hard time with the title: “Son of God.” One day, I asked the Lord to please show me if this title had ever been used of the Messiah in the Old Testament so I could accept it and rejoice in it more easily. Within a few days, and without researching, I came across the prophecy of Nathan to King David in 1 Chronicles 17:11-14! I cried tears of joy because our God is an awesome God!!
Well, I just found out that 4 sentences is a challenge! Still, it is possible, and I hope you will try. Another thing I just discovered is that it would probably be even more of a blessing if you could attach a scripture reference as I did above. Just the reference, please, because the entire verse would make our “thank offering” longer than folks would want to read through.
Here is just a bit of what the Bible teaches us about the importance of giving thanks…
1 – Fighting a battle? – Give thanks!
“…the king appointed singers to walk ahead of the army, singing to the Lord and praising him for his holy splendor. This is what they sang:
‘Give thanks to the Lord; his faithful love endures forever!’ At the very moment they began to sing and give praise, the Lord caused the armies of Ammon, Moab, and Mount Seir to start fighting among themselves” (2 Chronicles 20:21-22).
2 – Wondering how to witness? – Give thanks!
“Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done” (Psalm 105:1).
3 – Want to enter His presence – Give thanks!
“Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name” (Psalm 100:4).
4 – Are things pretty rough right now? – Give thanks!
“Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus” (1 Thess. 5:18).
5 – Wrestling with anxiety? – Give Thanks!
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done” (Philippians 4:6).
6 – Want to honor God? – Give Thanks!
“…giving thanks is a sacrifice that truly honors me…” (Psalm 50:23).
7 – Wondering if it might be prideful to make your praise public? – Give Thanks!
“They shall also exalt Him in the congregation of the people, And praise Him at the seat of the elders” (Psalm 107:32).
Well, this is Project 9212! I am feeling especially thankful as I write this because I get to be the first one to read and rejoice over all the testimonies I hope to receive! Please send in your thanksgiving accounts in the next 3-5 days, if possible, so I can put them up on RR by early November. Now, in closing, King David has a question to ask you…
“Has the Lord redeemed you? Then speak out! Tell others he has redeemed you from your enemies.”
Thanks to all who choose to participate!
