Yes, some of us Christians are ignorant, usually because we are new to the faith. In which case, there is some catching up to do. So, it’s important to find a Bible-believing church to attend where the pastor/ pastors are well-versed in the scriptures. Nevertheless, it is best if you are taught through reading the Bible for yourself, asking for God’s guidance.
Others are complacent, but after a while, like the Laodicean church, they become indifferent to the faith and begin to fall away. Since they don’t grow by not being challenged, they wither on the vine. Most others are fearful, lacking faith due to not studying scripture to learn what God has to say.
But the real tragedy is that too few of us are bold enough to proclaim the Gospel even to our own families and friends. And when we are bold enough to stand on scripture, we are often outcasts to be shunned in our own church for being an unschooled “nut job” by the leadership!
There is a long list of things that churches do and fail to do; they were first put in place to primarily equip Christians for the spiritual battles ahead. While it’s true that some spiritual leaders are helpful in leading their flock in the right direction, they almost always lead the flock through their own distorted thinking and by making themselves out to be paragons of faith and virtue. However, they are merely human beings like you and me. So, “Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; their plans come to nothing.”
That is why it is imperative to study your Bible and learn what God has to say about everything. After all, He created everything. In so doing, you will be taught by God and not by men. “But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true; it is not a lie. So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ.”
Typically, though, the leaders fail to advance the Gospel to the lost and dying, preferring to take shelter in a cement brick building, hunkering down to wait and see if things are going to return to “normal.” ‘Normal’ meaning that the number of mass murders will go down, and enemies will finally admit to being wrong in killing one another, including women and children. It’s called “wishful thinking.”
“There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end thereof is the way of death.”
But worse than that, they are going on summer retreats when they haven’t even engaged the enemy. Hot dogs, Kumbaya sing-alongs, and a little hanky-panky. My God! What are these people thinking? Where are the warriors for Christ who are willing to stand for their convictions?
Due to obscene drug use in our country, spurred by hopelessness due to a lack of knowledge of God, young men are randomly killing others indiscriminately on an unprecedented scale. The Bible says, “Because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall grow cold.” Corrupt politicians, as well as clergy, only care about the power and money they can make “serving” the public. Many now own several houses, cars, and even planes that they didn’t own before, plus stocks and bonds, after being elected and rising through the ranks. Such people should be exposed and severely dealt with.
Even as I write this, several civil servants in high places are being indicted for various crimes and are lawyering up to face criminal indictments, as well as for pedophilia.
Earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis, mudslides, and flooding continue to plague the nations, with war and rumors of war on the immediate horizon. If you had read the Bible, you would have known this and prepared to meet your maker by repenting, receiving Christ’s forgiveness, getting baptized, and burying your nose in the Bible, which is lost somewhere in the house. (Did you look under the bed?)
Yesterday, I set out to run errands and found myself at Costco in time for lunch to have my favorite hot dog and soft drink. I really felt like keeping to myself, so I sat with my back against the wall. But as I ate, two middle-aged women both dressed in black crossed in front of me. The one closest to me slid by with her back to me, and looking up, I saw that she had a big tattoo of a human skull on her shoulder. This could only mean one thing: that God wanted me to talk to her and her friend, since that told me they were lost.
I continued to eat, but I could only eat half of my meal. NO, GOD, I pleaded in silence, ‘Please let me have the day off.’ But as I stood to leave, I thought, ‘If I don’t talk and give my card to these women, they may die in their sins.’
After engaging the man seated directly in front of me with my card, and him thanking me, I felt empowered to talk to the women as well. When I did, and after some small talk like, “The Lord wanted me to talk to you ladies and to give you both my card,” LO and BEHOLD, they took the two cards willingly and even thanked me for my advice to prepare for His coming. In leaving, I approached a young salesman who was selling something near the exit. He had long hair and had a disheveled appearance, so I was inclined to pass him by, and I did – but as I passed, the Lord prompted me to turn around and approach him. So, I did; I talked to the young man at length, gave him my card, and went on my way.
“Hey Jim, stop! I have something for you!” he called, and catching me just before I exited, he handed me a small wooden cross, saying, “I like to hand these out to other people.”
“So, you’re a Christian too!”
“I try to be,” the young man answered.
“Tomorrow we’ll have to talk,” I replied.
