The Truth of Isaiah 2:22 :: By Dave Hubley

(There is a special message at the end of this article for those who might happen to read this and do not have Jesus in their life.)

In one brief sentence at the end of Isaiah Chapter 2, this declaration is made by God after revealing what He would have to do when the world will have become hopelessly permeated by sin and rebellion, as in the days of Noah (Luke 17:26-27). It confirms an empirical truth for those who are paying attention to the current conditions of the world today.

“Put no more trust in man, who has only the breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he?” (Isaiah 2:22)

Day by day, we are confronted by the reality of this very short but timely message from the Lord through the prophet Isaiah.

Although written 700+/- years previous in the book of Isaiah, it is a fitting prologue to this command by the Lord Jesus:

“And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!” (Mark 13:37)

This command was given to us relative to diligence in remaining aware of the numerous signs of conditions that will exist as the time of His promised return draws near, as the entire 13th Chapter of Mark declares. (See also Luke 21 and Matthew 24).

Some say that this declaration was made only to and relative only to the Jews; however, it is worth remembering that Jesus was certainly very well aware that the Jewish disciples would form the core of His yet to be established Church just 50 days after He rose from the dead.

On Pentecost, after His 40 days of post-resurrection life and 10 days after His ascension, His church was instituted as He promised by the Holy Spirit.

Since that time, despite the Holy Spirit working through believers in the growing Church, a prophecy by Jeremiah has also become more obvious in its undeniable truth.

“The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?” (Jeremiah 17:9)

The human condition has now become a fulfillment of this declaration made by the apostle Paul, once again at the direction of the Holy Spirit:

“But realize this, that in the last days difficult times will come. For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, irreconcilable, malicious gossips, without self-control, brutal, haters of good, treacherous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these” (2 Timothy 3:1-5).

Jeremiah’s prophecy has been confirmed by the unvarnished and sad truth of present-day reality:

There are many who, despite the obvious decay of the world around them, perhaps most noticeable here in America, insist on believing that:

  • Trump will make everything alright again.
  • Things will come around like they always do.
  • We’ll be “OK.”

In truth, the last two are only hopeful platitudes based on wishful thinking.

And the first? Trump is just a man that God is using at this time to complete His plans for humanity. God’s plans are going to be quite different, and ultimately, infinitely better than man’s man-imagined utopia and Godless delusion.

I have learned that it is not what people say that is the plumb line of the human heart, but it is what they do.

While in human terms, President Trump thus far seems to be a man who keeps his word and backs it up with his actions, he is severely outnumbered by those who embody the characteristics prophesied in 2 Timothy 3:1-5.

I believe that the actions that these people are being allowed to take constitute a warning by God that, as He has consistently done throughout all human history, He will execute judgment when man fails to police his own evil actions.

I believe there is also strong evidence that this evil has been allowed to fester for so long that no amount of human effort, no matter how sincere, will be able to stop it.

While the president is bound to operate under the conditions established by law, the “opposition” willingly chooses not to constrain themselves to that same standard. Instead, they do what is right in their own eyes, much like the chaotic times that are recorded in the Book of Judges. Isn’t it ironic that much of our present chaos is a result of an ungodly judiciary?

If laws were actually followed, much of this chaos could have been averted.

Instead, this is the primary justification for most new laws, which will be ineffective as well, just like the original ones when they were disregarded. Laws to fix laws to fix laws.

Perhaps the most obvious example of this is the most basic law instituted by God and reiterated by human government:

“Thou shall not kill (murder)” (Exodus 20:13/Deuteronomy 5:17).

Man, out of political correctness and corruption of the plain meaning of this command, creates “hate crime” laws as if the meaning of “murder” is not clear enough.

Merriam-Webster: “the crime of unlawfully and unjustifiably killing a person.”

God makes His intent clear (as He ever does) in Proverbs relative to the concept of murder:

There are six things that the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to Him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that run swiftly to evil, a false witness who gives false testimony, and one who stirs up discord among brothers” (Proverbs 6:16-19) Emphasis added.

What does man do in order to justify his own actions and inadvertently confirm the truth of God’s Word? He changes his interpretation of words to satisfy his greed and lust for money.

He changes the meaning of “person” by parsing, twisting, and obfuscation. He redefines (in his own evil terms) when life begins so as to justify his murders.

So why are there so many innocents that are still being wantonly murdered now?

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil” (1 Timothy 6:10a).

As I recall from my high school days back in the 60s, the little sperm cells swimming up the fallopian tubes appeared very much alive. They may have been acting on instinct, but if they didn’t “act,” no one except Jesus, Adam, and Eve would ever have lived.

Based on human history (actual, not rewritten and falsified), what problems, observing current worldwide conditions, has man succeeded in solving by acting apart from God?

Sadly, it would be hard, based on an honest evaluation, to find any fault in the below-linked article. If it seems harsh, it may serve to awaken those who have thus far refused to accept the reality in these days that aligns perfectly with the prophetic revelations that the Word of God describes at the very end of the age.

God’s Word, with its 100% accuracy of predictive prophecy, offers no hope to humanity that this sin-besotted world can survive without Him executing His Sovereign will.

Even as He prepares this intervention, and reveals it by signs (Luke 21:25) in the sun, the moon, and in the heavens, He tells the world:

“If those days had not been cut short, nobody would be saved. But for the sake of the elect, those days will be cut short” (Matthew 24:22).

Now to the crux of this article.

There is a spiritual war that has been going on since the fall of Adam and Eve. It was recorded in the account of Genesis and has never let up.

Paul wrote about this in Ephesians, and perhaps because it has been taught for 2000+/- years, there is a case of “familiarity breeds indifference” today by many (but not all) Churchgoers (true believers), churchgoers (unbelievers), and God rejectors.

“For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this world’s darkness, and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:12).

Some people are indifferent about the reality of these evil spirits (demons); however, the Holy Spirit prompted James to write in his letter:

“You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!” (James 2:19) Emphasis added.

God will allow this spiritual warfare to continue until it results in His having to execute the final judgments as described in numerous places in His Word. Wars, rumors of them, and other disasters will keep increasing as they are now.

The Book of Revelation records the final account of what must occur because man has chosen to trust in man-centered teaching and “solutions” that will fail. Still, the Lord Jesus continues to appeal to God-rejecting humanity.

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me” (Revelation 3:20) Emphasis added.

God does not want anyone to perish (2 Peter 3:9/1 Timothy 2:3-4).

It is up to you to open your door. If you choose to, you must do so in your living years.

The special message I promised you:

For anyone who may read this article and has not trusted in Jesus Christ and therefore has no hope or peace in your life.

You can have hope. You can have the peace that Jesus has promised to all who have made Him their Lord and Savior. The peace that passes understanding.

It requires that you come before God on His terms and that you do so in your living years.

And, what are His terms according to His Word?

  • Genuine repentance (turning to God instead of continuing to reject or ignore Him).
  • Confession of sins (that you are a sinner and acknowledge that to God).
  • That you understand that the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).
  • To acknowledge to God that you are unable to pay that debt.
  • Belief that Jesus Christ paid your death sentence for you on the cross and rose from the grave three days later, conquering death, just as He promised.
  • To believe that Jesus is the Way, the only Way, that God has established by which humans may be saved from the consequences of their sin and rebellion.

God has made it absolutely clear that there is no one who comes before Him, under His terms, that will be refused.

  • No one: no race, no color, no country of origin, regardless of any previous belief system: no one.
  • No matter what your past sins have been, God can and WILL forgive you because He says He will.
  • Salvation is available to everyone without any exceptions.

If you put all your trust for salvation in Jesus, and Him only, you can follow that prayer up by simply saying, “Thank you, Father God, for hearing my prayer and saving me,” because we can trust Him to keep His Word. He always has. He always will.

“Truly, Truly, I say to you that he who hears My words and believes the One who sent Me has eternal life and will not be condemned. He has crossed from death to life” (John 5:24).

There are no answers and there is no hope in the world by governments, organizations, politics or politicians. There are only lies and deception. But you can have the Truth and the peace you seek.

The answers are in the Word of God—The Bible. If you ask God, with all your heart, He will hear you.

“And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart” (Jeremiah 29:13).
