At least two people died and more than 1,000 were forced to evacuate after record rainfall hit South Korea on Wednesday and Thursday, July 16 and 17, 2025. Seosan in South Chungcheong Province experienced its highest hourly rainfall since records began in 1904.

They would concentrate decision-making in the hands of professional judges, increasing the risk of institutional bias and state influence, and could lead to miscarriages of justice, as seen in Northern Ireland’s Diplock courts’ reliance on informants and relaxed evidentiary standards. Juryless trials will erode democratic accountability and are a threat to individual rights, the rule of law, and the UK’s constitution.
